Draw, measure and share chart annotations

Place a drawing#

The drawing strip groups trend tools, Gann/Fibonacci tools, geometric shapes, annotations, patterns and prediction/measurement tools. Open a group and choose a tool. Click the required anchors on the chart; the preview follows the pointer between clicks. Escape cancels placement and returns to Cross. Keep drawing leaves the tool available for repeated placements.

For a simple support line choose Horizontal Line and click its price. A Trend Line needs start and end anchors. Fib Retracement uses two anchors. Long Position and Short Position use entry, target and stop anchors. Brush/highlighter finish when the pointer is released; paths and polylines finish with right-click, double-click or Enter. Longer pattern tools require their sequence of anchors.

Select and edit#

Click an object to select it, then move its anchors or drag the selection as supported. Cmd/Ctrl-click adds/removes objects from a multi-selection; moving several selected drawings is one edit. Right-click a selected drawing for Clone, Edit text…, Sync, Style, Lock/Unlock, Hide, Bring to front, Send to back and deletion. Style provides colour, line width, solid/dashed/dotted strokes and label visibility.

Text tools open a text dialog. Type the annotation, use Shift+Enter for a newline and Add/Save to accept it. Enter or Cmd/Ctrl+Enter can submit; Escape cancels. Use Drawing objects to find hidden drawings, select an object, show/hide it, lock it or delete it. A locked object remains selectable but must be unlocked before an ordinary delete; Eraser skips locked objects.

Magnet cycles Off, Weak and Strong. Weak snaps to nearby bar OHLC/midpoints; Strong always snaps to the nearest OHLC. Turn it off for deliberate free placement. Star a tool in its group to add it to Favorite drawing tools and the strip.

Choose a sharing scope first#

Changing symbol can hide objects belonging to the previous symbol. This is expected scope behavior, not evidence they were deleted. Shared drawings can appear on several timeframes. Their normalized symbol matching is a chart-sharing rule, not a guarantee that two broker contracts have identical prices or economics.

Delete shared objects carefully: removing a Layout or Global drawing removes that shared object elsewhere too. Remove drawings on this chart removes unlocked visible drawings, with confirmation when shared drawings are involved or locked objects remain. Lock all drawings prevents such edits; Hide drawings only changes display.

Measure without submitting a trade#

Long/short position drawings show endpoint prices, signed percentage, ticks/pips where known, quantity, estimated cash outcomes and risk/reward from the drawing's frozen instrument/size snapshot. Invalid target/stop sides are marked invalid. These are visual plans, not broker orders, attached protection or strategy instructions. Submit an order through the order ticket or chart trading controls separately.

Some instruments can show account-currency outcomes; others show exact quote-currency outcomes when no quote-to-account conversion rate is available. Read that currency label. Changing a chart's order size later does not rewrite an existing drawing's frozen size assumptions.

Date/price range and Measure tools report the loaded bars' price, duration, bar count and volume. Anchored VWAP and drawing volume profiles use available chart-bar volume. They do not create missing lower-timeframe tape. Future-space time projection is an estimate from loaded bar spacing; it is not an exchange-session scheduling tool.

Undo, preserve and recover#

The drawing-strip Undo/Redo buttons follow the current chart's next drawing-history step. Cmd/Ctrl+Z and redo chords participate in chart Back/Forward. Text inputs retain their own editing shortcuts while focused. Check which chart has focus before undoing.

Removing a chart can permanently delete its Local drawings after Remove chart and drawings?. Shared drawings are kept. Switching workspace, moving tabs or normal application/window restoration has a different lifetime from explicitly deleting the chart. Workspace export carries that workspace's Local/Layout drawings; Global drawings are not included. Import and workspace duplication create fresh owned drawing identities. Workspace templates exclude drawings.

Ghost Feed, Position Forecast, Bars Pattern and drawing fixed-range profiles are chart-native visual approximations. Per-tool property dialogs, drawing templates, interval visibility, drawing alerts, named object groups and indicator-pane drawing surfaces are outside the current baseline. Use the controls actually offered rather than assuming another charting product's complete tool behavior.
