Save, share and organise workspaces

Manage named workspaces, tabs, desktop windows and portable workspace packages.

Start with a named workspace#

The workspace switcher in the top bar is the entry point for saved working environments. Use a descriptive name such as “FX review”, “Equity research” or “Futures execution”. A workspace can include several canvas tabs, charts, panel settings and desktop windows. Opening another workspace does not change the meaning of an existing broker account or transfer its positions.

Choose New workspace to save the current layout and windows under a new name. Choose New empty workspace to start with default layouts rather than copying the current desk. Save after making changes you want to preserve. AMM can ask to save before switching workspaces or closing the application; those preferences live in Settings → Workspaces.

Work with tabs#

  1. Click + in the top bar to create another empty tab in the current workspace.
  2. Add one or more items to its canvas.
  3. Right-click the tab for Rename tab…, Reset tab name, Duplicate tab, Move to new window, Close tab or Close workspace in this window.
  4. Use Tabs in this workspace when not every tab fits in the strip. The overflow count also helps reveal hidden tabs.
  5. Use Split into one tab per item when a mixed canvas would be easier to navigate as separate tabs.

An automatic chart tab label identifies a chart using its symbol and timeframe. A manually assigned name takes precedence; Reset tab name restores automatic naming. Automatic labels can change when their chart's metadata changes. Tab naming does not rename the instrument or strategy.

The workspace's selected tab can follow workspace switching in other windows. This lets a multi-monitor desk bring the same workspace forward across its windows. Separate workspace tabs still keep their own canvases and item state.

Use Windows & workspaces#

Open Windows & workspaces from System or the command palette. On a supported native desktop, By window shows window cards and their tabs; By workspace shows the workspace arrangement. The Screen map and selected-window inspector show display, Space/Desktop, size and tabs. Select a window before using Raise, Move window or Merge into.

Drag a window card or map representation to the available display or desktop targets, or use its placement menu. Exact Space/Desktop capabilities depend on the operating system and permissions. Use Show on screen or Raise when you have lost a window behind another application. Do not use operating-system screenshots as proof that a tab moved: verify the tab appears in the destination window and retains its content.

Distinguish copies, moves and panel windows#

Move to new window transfers a workspace tab. A canvas Move panel action transfers that panel or item to a selected tab/window. Pop out gives a panel its own desktop window, with Dock back to return it. An “open in new window” command can instead create new content. Read the menu label before acting; a new chart and a moved chart are different objects.

A move can recreate a feature's frontend container and its server subscriptions. In particular, screeners can recreate their server session when moved as complete items; allow warmup to finish and check their alert state. A window close normally preserves workspace content for restoration; Close item or a removable chart's close action has a different lifetime and can stop its owned session.

Make and use templates#

Windows & workspaces offers built-in templates including Manual trading desk, Research, Live monitoring and Empty workspace. Select a template and supply a name to create a new workspace. Save as template… captures a reusable workspace layout. Saved workspace templates are listed separately from ordinary saved workspaces.

Workspace templates do not include chart drawings. Use workspace export/import when the goal is to carry that workspace's local/layout drawing objects. A chart template is narrower again: it stores an individual chart configuration rather than a complete multi-window desk.

Export, import, duplicate and delete#

Use the workspace management actions to export a portable workspace package and import it as a new workspace. Imported workspaces receive fresh identity rather than replacing an open workspace. A workspace package contains workspace metadata and its local/layout drawings; global drawings are outside that package. Configuration portability is not credential portability: set up broker access and validate accounts on the destination system.

Duplicate workspace creates another saved workspace and copies its owned local/layout drawings with new drawing identities. Save As New similarly copies owned drawings to the new workspace. Delete workspace removes that workspace's saved content and owned local/layout drawings, including locked objects; global drawings remain. Export before deleting anything you may need again.

Browser and recovery notes#

A browser has one application window and does not expose native window placement, native panel popouts or desktop notifications. Browser shortcuts differ for commands the browser reserves. The shortcut manager shows the binding for the environment you are using; do not assume desktop Cmd/Ctrl+T creates an AMM tab in a browser.

If a saved layout appears incomplete, first locate the workspace in the manager and check its other tabs and windows. Check whether the tab-open preference also reopened other saved windows. Use a saved export for recovery rather than repeatedly deleting and reimporting. If a panel is unavailable because a plugin was removed, reinstall or restore the required plugin before discarding its retained state.

Build a workspace from panels, Draw, measure and share chart annotations, Save and reuse chart templates.
