Configure application appearance and chart defaults from Settings.

Find the setting and its scope#

Open the gear menu's Settings…, use Cmd/Ctrl+, or search the command palette. Settings opens over the current canvas. Search by the task or field name; all query words must match. Results are real setting rows grouped by section, so you can change the matching control directly. Cmd/Ctrl+F focuses search; Escape clears it, then closes the screen.

Ordinary Settings changes save automatically. Each row supplies help, scope and a reset when different from default. A linked configuration dialog can instead have its own Save/Cancel flow. Read the scope chip: a device display preference, a workspace layout and an API-server trading setting have different reach.

Appearance and accessibility#

Appearance includes Dark/Light/System theme, density, colour-vision-safe colours and font scale. System follows the operating system. Compact density reduces target sizes; use a comfortable density and larger font scale if precision or legibility is more important than fitting extra rows.

Top bar offers Show Day P&L and Show Flatten all button, both off by default. Day P&L otherwise remains in Accounts, and Flatten all remains available through the command palette. Suggest items for free space in a tab controls canvas suggestions. Linux desktop can offer Native window frame, which takes effect on next launch; this platform-specific setting is not shown elsewhere.

Keyboard and navigation#

Keyboard shortcuts opens the shortcut manager and shows customised/unassigned counts. Search for a command, record a valid chord, resolve conflicts and save as offered. Reset all shortcuts first backs up the current bindings. Bare unsafe keys and platform-reserved combinations cannot be assumed to work.

Browser defaults differ because the browser reserves Cmd/Ctrl+T, W, N and related chords. Use the binding shown in the current environment. Workspaces controls save-before-switch/close behavior, saved windows when opening tabs and rail clicks. Clicking a rail item, open-location dots and the new-tab toast determine how navigation behaves; choose those deliberately if repeated clicks appear to open unexpected content.

Trading safety and one-click#

Trading safety includes Show order splits, One-click trading, Warn before one-click turns on, account arms, maximum order size by asset class, price band and the action when a limit is hit. LIVE confirmation is locked on. Flatten/close/reverse retain their broader-operation confirmations.

Default UI maximums differ by asset: forex lots, CFD lots, equity shares, futures contracts and crypto units. Check the actual unit before changing a limit. Invalid limit values are not saved; the row explains the valid range and restores the value that still applies. These order-entry checks run in the app; they are not a universal risk layer for independent REST/MCP calls or algorithms.

Order splits are off by default and only appear for a confirmed eligible Hedging account. Turning their visibility off resets entry drafts to one and invalidates split confirmations; it does not alter existing positions. One-click is temporary and account/mode-aware; importing settings does not carry an armed trading state.

Backtest defaults for simulated fills#

Backtest → Fill style by asset class sets defaults on the connected API server for fresh simulated historical runs. It does not connect to a broker, change a live account's orders or configure live execution.

  1. Open Settings → Backtest and wait for the table to load from the API server.
  2. Find Forex, CFD, Future, Equity, Crypto or Option and choose its Default fill style: Standard or cTrader-style.
  3. The selection saves immediately. Wait for Saving to finish; Not saved means the change failed and the previous saved value still applies. Restore the server connection before retrying.
  4. Prepare a fresh backtest, optimisation or Walk-forward request and inspect the instrument's effective fill style and source. An explicit request or algorithm choice can override the asset-class default.
  5. Keep the finished run's contract/manifest when comparing results so the fill assumptions remain reproducible.

Built-in defaults are cTrader-style for Forex/CFD and Standard for Future/Equity/Crypto/Option. Standard uses midpoint-based quotes with the instrument spread; an already-triggered stop can fill when placed. cTrader-style uses historical bid plus spread for ask and its pending-order timing; an already-triggered stop waits for the next price. Read the run's recorded quote/source policy too: choosing a style does not manufacture executable historical bid/ask data or prove parity with another platform.

The Day starts (from the data feed) column is explanatory: changing fill style does not change daily-bar alignment. The note identifies cTrader session offsets, futures 17:00 Chicago and other data's UTC day boundaries.

A run keeps its copied default table. Loaded/saved requests, reruns and remote-worker handoffs retain their frozen table rather than silently adopting a later Settings change. Code-declared and runtime-added instruments use that run's table when admitted unless code explicitly chooses another style before their first price. Changing this page therefore does not rewrite old research or a prepared request that already carries its defaults. App-settings export is a separate preference file; it is not a backup of this API-server table. See Backtesting for the complete simulated-account workflow.

Charts and futures rolls#

Charts controls new-chart default timeframe/type/gridlines/overlays, crosshair sync, Time zone for times, zone labelling and the optimization-detail presentation. Distinguish Show on new charts from Show on all charts: existing open charts and future defaults are separate scopes. Per-chart Settings retains individual overrides.

Futures rolls sets platform auto-roll default and per-family times in America/Chicago. Individual sessions, charts/backtests and positions can override the default. Review old/new contract, roll economics and last-safe-day warnings in the futures workflow; changing a default is not proof that a particular existing position is now safely rolled.

Connections and notifications#

Brokers & feeds, Messaging alerts and Server connection provide status and open their dedicated dialogs. Server connection includes address, token, response time, recent servers, WebSocket and relay. Test connection is a read-only probe; choosing a different server changes which backend state the app reads. Do not treat identical chart symbols on another server as the same session.

Notifications controls per-category toast/bell behavior, sounds and operating-system permission. Messaging separately configures Telegram/Discord and guarded reply policy. Advanced & about shows version/build, licence, log location, updates, first-time setup and Copy diagnostics. Review diagnostic text for secrets before sharing it outside your organization.

Export, import and recover#

Data → Export settings writes app preferences such as appearance, shortcuts, chart defaults, limits and notification choices. It excludes secrets, armed one-click, broker credentials/settings, the current server connection, workspaces, layouts and backups. Use workspace export for the desk itself.

Import settings previews replacements, asks, backs up current values and applies allowed keys. Reset layouts resets layout measurements in the current workspace scope while retaining charts/canvas state/drawings/templates; named workspace files are not rewritten. Reset all settings resets Settings-owned preferences while keeping broker configuration, server connection, workspaces, layouts and drawings. Backups restores the newest reset/import/shortcut-reset backup.

Before a major change, save/export the workspace and export settings separately. If a control appears missing, search Settings, check platform scope and toolbar overflow, then inspect licensing/server state. Rerunning first-time setup helps revisit initial configuration; it is not a data-history or broker-position reset.
